Top of Funnel Inbound Marketing Strategy—Writing Awareness Stage Content

Posted by Logan Mayville

Writing top of funnel content is severely underrated with inbound marketing strategy.

It's completely non-existent with outbound marketing.

And do you want to know what’s wrong with outbound marketing funnels? We build them from the marketer's point of view.

For example, here's an overly typical marketing funnel:

  1. Facebook ads with a single call to action > buy this thing
  2. Ecommerce store > the thing is for sale
  3. Web visitor either buys or bounces

By sending ads that only have a message suitable for people at the bottom of the marketing funnel, aka a people looking to buy now, you’re missing out on the entire middle and top of funnel crowd.

The ToFu + MoFu crowd could be 80-90% of the audience.

By definition, the top and middle of the funnel group aren't ready to buy yet—they need more information. They need more content.

We are going to spend this entire post explaining that concept in detail.

TL;DR—you just wasted your PPC money targeting BoFu content to a ToFu audience.
